Technical file print

In accordance with Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC all producers of machinery are obliged to carry out an evaluation procedure to assess the conformity of the machinery they produce.

This evaluation is required to gain CE Marking. To achieve this, the machinery has to comply with the essential health and safety requirements in accordance with Annex I and detailed in the Machinery´s Technical File in accordance with Annex VII.

I9s are specialists in Industrial Safety and we assess machinery and produce the Technical File, which is necessary to secure CE Marking. We achieve this by applying the regulations with accountability and sustainability.

The Machine´s Technical File includes:

  • Risk assessment in accordance with ISO 12100:2010, (hazard identification, estimation, assessment and risk reduction).
  • Estimates of the reliability of the control systems in relation to safety, PL (Performance Level) in accordance with EN 13849-1.
  • The Instruction Manual in accordance with Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.
  • The assembly drawings, and mechanical and electrical information.
  • The examination and test results of the EHSR in accordance with Annex-I of the Machinery Directive.
  • The examination and test results of the electrical equipment (cubicle, installation) in accordance with EN 60204-1.
  • The examination and test results of EMC in accordance with EN 61000-6-2, EN 61000-6-4.
  • The validation of the safety chains. - The EC Declaration of Conformity for the machinery and all incorporated products.

Instruction manual print

Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC (section 1.7.4.2.) states that the instruction manual is one of the mandatory documents and must accompany the machinery.

Safety guard design print

Safety Guards are one of the safest and most economic preventative solutions for protecting people against the dangers of machinery.

These Safety Guards must be designed using the measurements and distances specified as safe by current standards.

Safety system engineering print

We design electric safety systems with conventional control architectures (safety relay) or using new architectures based on safety PLCs with or without Safety Fieldbuses. They are all updated to the performance level required(PLr) in accordance with EN 13849-1.

Safety PLC programming print

We program the Safety PLC off-line. These are also called PSS (Programmable Safety Systems).

Updates in accordance with R.D. 1215 print

Machinery put into service before 1995 must comply with Royal Decree 1215.

For this reason, we inspect the current state of your machinery, including areas such as the electrical equipment, safety, maintenance and documentation.

Installation and commissioning of AOPD and PSS print

We install and commission the following:

  • Active opto-electric protective devices (AOPD), such as safety light curtains and safety laser scanners.
  • Safety PLC (PSS).
Safety guard installation print

We supply and install either fixed or mobile gaurds, with or without locking, and safety roller doors. All of which comply with the current Machinery Directive.

Electrical equipment update print

We update the machine´s electrical equipment so that it conforms with standard EN 60204-1. We focus on the following:

  • Protection index
  • Electrical Insulation
  • Withstanding
  • Earthing
  • Protection against short circuits, selectivity.

AOPD inspection print

We inspect the correct installation and programming of all active opto-electric protective devices (AOPD), such as safety light curtains and safety laser scanners.

Safety distance inspection print

The location of the active opto-electronic protective devices (AOPD), is dependent on a number factors:

  • Type of AOPD installation(horizontal, vertical, oblique).
  • AOPD resolution.
  • Overall downtime due to dangerous movements.

With this information and by applying the relevant standard formulas, we calculate the theoretical safety distances between dangerous movements and the physical location of the AOPD.

In order to validate this distance, we measure the actual downtime when the AOPD is installed.

Safety chain validation print

Part 2 of standard EN 13849 concerns the validation of the safety related parts of control systems (SRP/CS).

This standard states that the SRP/CS must be validated by analysis or by analysis and testing.

Electrical equipment inspection print

The electrical equipment of machinery should comply with standard EN 60204-1.

We test the following:

  • Electrical Insulation
  • Withstanding
  • Earthing
  • Protection against short circuits, selectivity.

Whenever macinery has electric and/our electronic equipment the Electromagnetic Compatability Directive (EMC) 2004/108/EC has to be applied.

The equipment must conform to two basic principles:

  1. The possible emission of electromagnetic waves to people, other devices and machines.
  2. The capacity to be immune in industrial environments.

The objective is to improve the efficiency and productivity of your installation.
We provide reports of all tests performed.

Safey Intregity Level (SIL) print

The Safety Integrity Level (SIL) is defined as the relative level of risk reduction that a safety function provides, or as the specified target level of risk reduction of that function.

We provide cosultation, adaption and studies of new processes while meeting the requirements of the following standards:

IEC 61508, “Functional Safety of electrical, electronic and electronic programmable control systems. (E/E/EP).”

IEC 61511, “Functional Safety: Safety instrumented systems for the industrial processing sector”.

Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) print

Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) also known as “Interlocks”, are utilized in hazardous processes for protection and to reduce the risk of accidents.

The implementation of SIS, drives the plant in safe condition.

SIS consist of three essential elements: Sensors systems, Controllers and Actuator systems:

The SIS must assess and analyse both the hardware and the software using several techniques,  such as:

  • Fault Analysis(FMEA).
  • Fault Tree.
  • And others.

Explosive atmospheres print

An explosive atmosphere is defined as a mixture of dangerous substances with air, under atmospheric conditions, in the form of gases, vapours, mist or dust in which, after ignition has occurred, combustion spreads to the entire unburned mixture.

ATEX Directives
The ATEX directives are not a precept and are constantly being revised and updated by the European Union Committee responsible for specifying the guidelines to be followed in every process which is deemed to be high risk.
There are two directives:
Directive 94/9/EC, which is concerned with producers of equipment, instrumentation and machinery etc.
Directive 99/92/CE, which is concerned with the final user.
